Food Discounts While Patrolling

Anyone else having some questions on receiving food discounts while on patrol? From receiving no discount, to partial discount, or even sometimes being free, it makes me wonder if I'm breaking some VCAP code in accepting my food or drink without paying full price To settle things, I went to the top and asked Roger to clarify what is acceptable.…

Relay For Life

Just donated my time and a little sweat to the American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life". As part of the El Monte Police Department's team, I did 20 laps and dedicated them to my mom and father-in-law who both died of cancer within the last 5 years.

Summer concerts are approaching fast !!!!

I see that the summer concerts are approaching fast .......... That being said I would like to encourage people to sign up for the detail as soon as it is avaliable. It is a fun detail I did all four concerts last year and had a blast .The only drawback was that their was a small amounts of VCAPS to work the event so we were spread very thin. So once again it is a fun event so please show up and sign up .

Patrol Experience

A patrol where myself and Chris Zeif took part in a frantic search for a 207, a kidnapping occurring around 8:00-8:30 pm near the intersection of Rosemead and Garvey. Being only 4-6 blocks from the incident, we felt an important part of the law enforcement team bent on sighting and apprehending the suspect's vehicle, a dark Yukon SUV.

Although we were unsuccessful, we were both reminded of the reasons for joining the VCAP organization.

VCAP Meeting

A good meeting. Ron Robinson's presentation of many likely things we VCAPs may see on a given patrol, and what would be possible actions by us. It was nice to see many pictures I sent him from the prior year.

SUPPLEMENTAL - March 10, 2010

So ends my detailed account of my first year as a VCAP. I've learned many things this first year. All following posts by myself will be brief in comparison and will not be from every event/detail/patrol I take part in.

Though it's not addressed here directly, I have never and would never ask for a discount from a business.

From receiving no discount, to partial discount, or even sometimes being free, it makes me wonder if I'm breaking some VCAP code in accepting my food or drink without paying full price To settle things, I went to the top and asked Roger to clarify what is acceptable."You’ve touched on a common question that is often posed to every police candidate during the police academy and even in oral interviews. Sixteenth Patrol

This 7.5 hour patrol with Natina Tse had a few notable firsts. After our normal checkout of equipment we drove to the station and checked in with Officer Cramer at the front desk. For a while now I've been in the habit when checking in initially with Dispatch to give our patrol details, to also inform them of my personal cellphone number in case they need to contact us other than using the radio. This seems to work well. In the past I've mentioned that we're on VCAP phone 3 for example, and then…See More

Fifteenth Patrol

Another patrol with Chris Zeif. This was the worst weather of any of my patrols thus far. It rained most of the evening. We started with a call to Jesse Lopez informing him of our coming patrol. Jesse gave us some bad news of him being in the hospital recovering from a surgery earlier in the day. After checking in with the station via phone and in person, we couldn't help but pay him a visit to help lift his spirits, of course at his suggestion.Later around mid-patrol and while in Pioneer Park,…See More
