Color Guard/Rifle Team

Arriving late to this, I made it just in time for our drill practice for the coming dinner on February 11th where we will be posting colors. We've definitely improved from our first practice and I look forward my first detail as a part of the VCAP Rifle Team. I had my chin strap and VCAP pin fitted on my campaign hat with the help of Jane Ellis and Debbie Moraza.

Fourteenth Patrol

Another patrol with Chris Zeif. After checking in with the Watch Commander, we set out as normal and patrolled the streets of El Monte. Most the evening was quiet, except for near the time we did our extra patrol at Rio Vista Park, so we used our cellphones to notify dispatch (do we still need to do this?) instead of the radio.

There was the normal person that attempted to evade police after doing some alleged offense. This time it was an up-and-coming criminal that stole a bicycle at the Metro… Continue

VCAP Meeting

The scheduled training for this meeting was "Evidence Site Identification & Containment". After a few announcements and words of praise for the many people doing various details, it was confirmed that the will be another VCAP class coming soon. A good thing as I've noticed a few less members than when I first started the program. It still amazes me the many hours fellow VCAPs dedicate each month toward the various details. It makes my few hours seem minuscule in comparison.

As I was chosen… Continue

Salcedo Rosary

A somber detail that brought back memories of my own mother's death two years prior. I ended up being the only VCAP that signed up for this. Arriving at the CRO slightly late I was slightly amiss at what needed to be done or who to meet. All I was informed of was to meet with an unknown officer at the Nativity Catholic church on Tyler. After talking to two officers I was at least now equipped with my contact, Lt. States.

Doing the normal equipment checkout and notifying dispatch, I contacted th… Continue

Metrolink Holiday Train

Another new detail experience I was meaning to do. Deborah Moraza headed up this one. Being well organized as always, she had us meet up with her at the Metrolink station as she was already on the scene. We were given tasks to do, mine being teamed with Jacklyn Ou to handle vehicle traffic at the east entrance of the parking lot. An easy enough assignment, Ou and I had the unexpected privilege to basically welcome most everyone arriving to the station for the event.

With Gus Ibarra (serving in… Continue

Desensitization training helps officers stay in the fight

New officers often come to us with little or no training in physical combat, often without ever being involved in a physical fight. They have never experienced a punch or a kick, and equally important, have never punched or kicked anyone themselves. They need experience and they need it fast — prior to hitting the streets as a police officer. They need what we call desensitization training.

How to buy patrol cars

By Jeff WohlgemuthThere have been many vehicles over the years that have been called police cars. Some of them evoke fond memories while others have caused severe headaches. Many hours could be spent discussing what ...
